Many people argue about who plays the most important role in teaching children how to become responsible members of society. While some believe that parents should take the main responsibility, others think that schools are better equipped to provide this kind of education. This essay will discuss both views and give my own opinion.
💬 The question of whether parents or schools should teach social values has been widely debated.
Supporters of the idea that parents should teach children to be good members of society argue that moral education begins at home. Parents are the first role models children interact with, so their behaviour strongly influences a child’s values, manners, and attitudes. In addition, parents know their children’s personalities well and can provide personalised guidance on behaviour, responsibility, and respect. Daily interactions such as sharing chores, resolving conflicts politely, or showing kindness give children practical lessons that shape their character.
On the other hand, many people believe that schools are better suited for teaching social values. One reason is that schools provide a structured environment where children learn teamwork, discipline, and cooperation through group activities and classroom rules. Furthermore, teachers are trained in education and can deliver formal lessons on citizenship, social norms, and ethics. Schools also expose children to peers from different backgrounds, helping them develop communication skills, tolerance, and respect for diversity.
In conclusion, both parents and schools play important roles in teaching children how to behave responsibly within society. While parents lay the foundation for moral development, schools reinforce these values through structured education and social interactions. In my opinion, the most effective approach is for both parents and schools to work together to guide children toward becoming good members of society.
💬 A balanced combination of parental guidance and school education is the most effective way to build social responsibility in children.
